Kevnjan's big adventure.

Wed. 4th. Apr. Last day in Venice. Set off for the city, the first vaporetto to turn up was headed for the island of Burano, which we'd intended to visit later. Jumped on and avoided the hoards of schoolchildren and other travellers boarding for St. Marks Square. Good decision. Burano is a small island, famous for the skills of it's lacemakers. Burano is to lace what Murano is to glass. Jan was captivated by the wonderful clothes on display in the shops. Very expensive but I suppose of high quality. She didn't buy clothes although she spent lots of time admiring them in shop windows. She contented herself with buying a glass pendant and earrings to match her bracelet. We spent more than an hour wandering around the pretty town. The inhabitants take great pride in their houses and paint them in bright, contrasting colours. Makes for good pictures, pity the sun didn't shine. As we walked back to the dock our attention was drawn to a tall couple sitting outside a cafe, looked suspiciously like Geert and Maria!! Pleasant surprise, after a coffee we shared a boat to Murano where they went off to see glass and we headed for Isola san Michel to take pictures of the cemetery for Ian. By the afternoon we were back in Venice and Jan wanted one more look at the Grand Canal from Rialto Bridge. Got some great pictures, good timing. We set out to walk to San Marco, got totally confused by the signposts which must be wrong, got lost and just enjoyed walking around, in the rain again. Spent a last evening in the company of our good friends, wine was taken!! Tomorrow we go our separate ways, they to Croatia and we to Lido di Jesolo, hopefully for 7 - 10 days on the beach, in the sun. Doesn't look too promising at the moment. Once more we have been lucky to enjoy a few days with G & M and I'm sure we'll bump into them again one of these days. It feels as though by leaving Venice we are beginning the long, slow journey back to England. Ho hum!!
